Wine with drinkability – Schäfer-Fröhlich’s Felseneck Kabinett

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery is known for its philosophy focused on origin and terroir. Tim Fröhlich strives for wines that possess finesse, elegance, and a clear expression of their place of origin, and is convinced that Riesling is best able to reflect this.

The winery is located in the Nahe wine region in the municipality of Bockenau. The family has been cultivating wine there for more than 200 years. Currently, they cultivate 21 hectares of vineyards in six Großen Lagen (Grand Cru sites), 85 percent of which are planted with Riesling and 15 percent with Pinot varieties.

The Riesling Kabinett 2021 tasted comes from the monopole vineyard Bockenauer Felseneck. The grapes thrive there on a south-facing slope of up to 60%, on rocky soil composed of blue Devonian slate, basaltic scree, and white-gray quartzite.

2021 Riesling Kabinett Bockenauer Felseneck, Schäfer-Fröhlich (Tasted wines)
On the nose, stony with herbal notes. On the palate, fresh, racy, vibrant acidity and noticeable tannins. Sweet and sour, slightly green fruit and herbs. Cool, lean, and mineral. Good drive and a long finish, slightly dominated by its acid. A very good wine with excellent aging potential.
